Wetland Narrative

20” x 16” | acrylic on panel | 2024

This painting uses layers and layers of acrylic over a dried lake bed imagery to create an encaustic effect. I used embedded acrylic skins in the layers to create a sense of history. I was thinking about the generations and generations of freshwater snails that have filtered water in this disappearing fresh water lake. Included are dried broken cattails that grew along the edges and the magnificent American White Pelican that depends on that water.
